01

Working From Home

Bør ansatte få jobbe hjemmefra noen dager i uken?

MeaningShould employees be allowed to work from home a few days a week?

B1-oriented practice

A view with a clear reason

B2-oriented development

Weigh the benefit against a condition

What changes? The developed answer moves from personal preference to a workplace decision. It adds a condition, considers teamwork, and proposes a practical compromise.

Your turn

Choose a job you know. Explain which parts of that job could be flexible and which could not.

02

Public Transport

Bør kommunen gjøre kollektivtransport billigere?

MeaningShould the municipality make public transport cheaper?

B1-oriented practice

Explain an everyday benefit

B2-oriented development

Compare price with service quality

What changes? The developed answer distinguishes affordability from availability. It explains why a policy might not work and describes what could make it more useful.

Your turn

Think about a journey you make regularly. Would a lower price or a more reliable service change your choice?

03

Life With Neighbors

MeaningWhat can neighbors do to make their neighborhood a better place to live?

B1-oriented practice

Offer familiar suggestions

What changes? The developed answer considers who might be left out and adjusts the suggestions to make participation easier.

Your turn

Suggest one small activity for your building or street. Explain how a new neighbor could join without feeling pressured.

04

MeaningIs it better to learn Norwegian online or in an in-person course?

B1-oriented practice

Connect your choice to your routine

B2-oriented development

Explain who each option may suit

What changes? The developed answer considers different learners and explains a potential drawback of each option before recommending a combination.

Your turn

Describe when you could realistically practice this week. Explain what would help you keep going when your schedule changes.

05

Phones and Family Time

Bør familier ha faste tider uten mobiltelefoner?

MeaningShould families have set times without mobile phones?

B1-oriented practice

Give a rule and a reason

B2-oriented development

Consider how a rule would work

What changes? The developed answer looks beyond the rule itself. It considers consistency, exceptions, and how the family could reach an agreement.

Your turn

Propose one realistic agreement for a household. Explain an exception that would still respect the purpose of the agreement.

06

Parks and Outdoor Spaces

MeaningShould the municipality spend more money on parks and outdoor recreation areas?

B1-oriented practice

Describe who would benefit

B2-oriented development

Discuss priorities and access

What changes? The developed answer links the proposal to access and budget choices. It explains why improving an existing space could be a useful first step.

Your turn

Choose one improvement for a public space near you. Explain its value and one reason someone might prioritize something else.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTIllustrative partner exchange
Practice partner

Jeg mener bussbilletter bør være gratis. Da vil flere la bilen stå.

Possible learner response

Practice partner

Da ville jeg kanskje valgt flere avganger først, men beholdt billigere billetter for ungdom.

Possible learner response

A change worth knowing

Bergenstesten has been discontinued.
What should you prepare for now?

Bergenstesten, also searched for as “Bergenstest,” is no longer available to take. The Norwegian Directorate of Health confirms its discontinuation. If you are looking for a Bergenstest alternative, check which language evidence the receiving institution or authority requires.

HK-dir currently provides Norskprøven A1–B2 and a separate C1 test. This page concentrates on A1–B2 speaking practice, with a detailed B1–B2 example collection.

C1 uses a different test structure

The C1 test combines listening with writing in one component, and reading with oral communication in another. It includes source material, summaries, and arguments. These short speaking exercises are not a complete C1 preparation course. Read HK-dir's C1 test description.

BEFORE YOUR NEXT ANSWER

A few things
you may be wondering.

Questions about the examples, practicing from the US, and where SayLingo fits in your preparation.

What is the best way to use these Norskprøven speaking examples?

Answer a question before reading the examples. Then compare how the answers explain a reason or introduce another perspective. Try the follow-up, and return to the same topic later with a different example from your own life.

What should I work on when moving from B1-oriented to B2-oriented practice?

Use the comparisons to practice explaining conditions, weighing different considerations, and responding to someone else's point. These are useful practice goals. The examples are not official ratings, and adding more words does not by itself demonstrate a higher level.

Are these official Norskprøven questions?

No. The questions and answers on this page are original SayLingo learning material. Official sample tasks are available from HK-dir and are linked in the test information section.

Can I practice from the US and take the official exam online?

You can use the online practice material from the US. The official Norskprøven A1–B2 test is held at test centers in Norway, rather than taken from home abroad. Check HK-dir's location guidance.

Do the examples use Bokmål or Nynorsk?

The written examples on this page use Bokmål. Bokmål and Nynorsk are written standards, not two official spoken accents. HK-dir allows Norwegian dialects in the oral test. Read the language guidance.

Can I still prepare for Bergenstesten?

Bergenstesten is no longer offered. Use the current-test explanation above to decide what to research next, and confirm any required documentation with the organization that will receive it.

Is a SayLingo learning certificate an official Norskprøven result?

No. A SayLingo certificate is a learning record. It is not an official Norskprøven result or a qualification document for immigration, admission, or professional authorization.

Can I use the examples without buying a membership?

Yes. The written questions, answer comparisons, and practice routine on this page are available to read before choosing a membership. Check the current SayLingo plan details for the usage limits and features available inside the learning product.
